Dear Friends,
Daniel continues to do well. He was discharged from the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center on November 2, 2023 and now lives in a group home in Richfield (a suburb of Minneapolis). Family visits are more frequent now, and more meaningful and natural. Daniel spent Christmas at his parents’ house, surrounded by family. He is rebuilding his life step by step. This quote from Alan Paton’s novel, Cry, the Beloved Country, comes to mind:
“Fear is a journey, a terrible journey, but sorrow is at least an arrival. When the storm threatens, a man is afraid for his house. But when the house is destroyed, there is something to do. About a storm he can do nothing, but he can rebuild a house.”
The picture below speaks volumes. A smiling Daniel is standing in front of the Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture in Minneapolis.
